Published 26 February 2020

Gallagher is extremely proud to be recognised as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies  for the 9th consecutive year.

The 2020 list, compiled by independent international arbiter The Ethisphere Institute, names 132 recipients in 21 countries and 51 industries. Gallagher, as a global insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting services firm, is the only recipient in the insurance industry.

Core values

“Congratulations to everyone at Gallagher for earning this recognition,” Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich, says, adding that the award acknowledges leaders working to advance corporate cultures defined by integrity and their contribution to the greater good.

“Since our founding in 1927, leading with integrity is a critical part of what has made Gallagher successful. We are honoured to  again  be recognised as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. This designation highlights Gallagher’s purpose and values that put the needs of people, businesses and communities first.”

Culture of unity

Ethical business practices have always been part of the DNA of Gallagher and form the basis of our day-to-day interactions with clients in the 49 countries in which we operate.

“We follow a code of personal and professional conduct called The Gallagher Way. They are 25 tenets that help inform the decisions and actions of every Gallagher colleague across the globe, and The Gallagher Way continues to guide our culture of ethics,” says Gallagher Global Chief Ethics Officer Thomas J Tropp.

Exacting criteria

The Ethisphere Institute is a global organisation dedicated to defining and advancing business practices that fuel corporate character, marketplace trust and business success.

To be named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies, organisations must answer more than 200 questions on culture, environmental and social practices, ethics and compliance activities, governance, diversity and initiatives to support a strong value chain.

The responses are used to create an operating framework to capture and codify the leading practices of participants around the globe.

All companies that participate in the assessment process receive a scorecard providing them a holistic assessment of how their programs compare with the standards of the leading companies. This year’s submission required us to complete a detailed assessment of our performance in the areas of ethics, compliance, corporate governance and corporate citizenship and responsibility.

A special thanks to all of our Gallagher people who have contributed to our year on year achievement.
