Congratulations to our Gallagher 2021 Young Gun award winner Jeff Williams

Published 30 June 2021

An accomplished all-rounder who was drawn to Gallagher as a challenger brand that truly cares about people, Senior Technical Lead for Claims Advocacy Team Jeff Williams says that helping clients in distress is his passion. The colleague who entered him into the 2021 Insurance Business Young Guns Awards reports that that nothing is too difficult for this technically smart professional.

“Jeff provides technical support through wording and coverage reviews,” she wrote. “He will go out of his way to ensure the client gets the best possible result on their claim and he does this by working with adjusters, insurers and anyone else involved in the claims process. Ultimately he puts himself in the client’s shoes ‒ he will hold their hand through what can be a very difficult and at times complex claims process.”

Williams says that he advocates for clients “to ensure the policies we place for them pay the way they should”. As well as providing technical advice on indemnity and market analysis information, he attends and presents at client meetings also.

Over the past 12 months he has been closely involved in supporting COVID-19-related losses and statutory investigations related to the film and entertainment industry, while also dealing with higher education claims issues and workflow management.

Using technical skills to ensure positive claims outcomes

His communication skills and ability to analyse complex claims data and provide astute and commercially sound advice are the foundation of his strong client advocacy position, while his depth of technical knowledge of the broad range of policies and his concise and well-crafted drafting skills are appreciated by both internal and external stakeholders. He also enjoys supporting technical growth and guidance through his coverage and wording reviews.

“The insurance industry is far more than just home and contents insurance,” Williams says. “It’s amazing how insurance touches every part of society, and claims in a broking house like Gallagher give you exposure to the full gamut.”

After having led the Gallagher Western Claims Team for four years Williams transferred to Victoria, and says his aim is to see claims become a fundamental part of the Gallagher offering to clients in broking. He is working to deepen his understanding of the broking process with broking teams across the country in order to ensure program certainty and that coverage in policies is aligned with clients’ risk transfer aims.

Developing team talent in claims handling

In addition to this he grows his junior and upcoming colleagues’ capabilities by acting as a mentor, coach and guide, and generally up-skilling junior claims staff in the Melbourne office, and providing training on relevant policy wordings and legislation. His mentorship and coaching also extends to colleagues outside of the Melbourne office, with a number of colleagues across the business seeking him out for professional and technical guidance.

We pride ourselves on claims support

Being there for our clients at claims time is one of our client service guarantees. We’re here to help.

The industry recognition of Jeff Williams as Young Gun winner in the 2021 Insurance Business awards is a testament to the value and importance of the skills provided by Jeff’s expertise and our claims services at Gallagher.
